If so much as Jesus was the son of God, then surely man too is the son of God. In the original text from the holy scripture that we call the bible (the best selling book in the history of the world) Jesus did not call himself the son of God but rather he called himself “A” son of God. Therefor if Jesus was a son of God and we are all the children of God made in his divine image then we too must be divine.
Philip says to Jesus in John 14 “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus replies to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me, or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.”
If you have seen me then you have seen the father, if we have seen Jesus then we have seen God and if we have seen God then we must now believe in God. If man is too be God then man needs understand that we are in fact created in the image of Christ, or rather that Christ was created in the image of man. If Jesus was placed on this earth as a man and he is God, he therefor had the faith needed within himself to do miraculous things as man.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
“He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also and greater works than these he will do” would it be possible to do the same deeds as Jesus, as God were man himself not God? Are we not then to believe that in order for us to accomplish greatness that we must in fact become like God. Or rather as Jesus said to believe in him and the works that he does then we will do them as well, so then one could argue that in order to obey Jesus who is in fact God, as Jesus says “A little while longer and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.”.
Christ says that God is in him and that Christ lives within us. So if God is with Jesus and Jesus is within us and that Jesus is actually God, then we must in fact be like Jesus and if we are in fact like Jesus then too must we be God.
For to believe in God we must first believe that Jesus is the Son of God, if Jesus is the son of God and we are sons of God and if Jesus says that we can do what he can do if we believe in him, but he says that he lives within us, then we need to in fact believe in ourselves. We need to believe in our own divinity, we need to believe that man is in fact God.
This ideology is taught in Hinduism and is a concept not often taught in Buddhism as the Buddhist wants you to discover this for yourself. As if you are able to discover this for yourself then you would have an understanding of self and therefor not rely on this concept as a crutch nor would you use this sense of self-righteous-divinity as an idle to be worshiped but rather to treat your fellow man equally as God, with love, respect and praise.
If we are truly to believe that the bible is the true word of God as the Christians believe and we are in fact to take what is written in the book as truth and live our lives in accordance to the laws and parables written within the book. Let us again turn to the Christian Bible where Jesus himself tells us that we are in fact God. Jesus had angered the Jews and they wanted to Stone him, we read of the story in the book of John.
“I and the Father are one.” 31 The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God,”
34 Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
Jesus himself told the Jews that they too were gods, it was written in the texts that God had deemed them Gods. So too in the same way was Jesus as the son of God, in fact God.
We could further go on to say that in fact man must be God, for man is capable of creation and imagination. As God created the earth and filled it with beasts that he would walk in the gardens with and tend to his gardens so that the beats may eat. Is this not too the same purpose of man. To tend to the earth in order to nurture the creatures which live on it. Did God not create man from nothing in the same way that we create life from nothing. Is man not capable of the extraordinary, are we not able to reach the heavens, explore new worlds, build civilizations. Do we not possess the power to destroy the earth, to take life, to give life, to bring people back from death? Are we as man not deeply connected to each other in a sort of cosmic way? Do we not all share the same traits, build, genetic makeup. Can one person not be made whole by using the parts of another? Are we not interchangeable, biologically identical, does this not make us rooted in the same construct?
“To know that you are God is to feel that you feel completely with this Universe. You are profoundly rooted in it and connected to it. You feel that the whole energy that expresses itself in the galaxy is intimate. It is not something to which you are a stranger but it is that which you are intimately bound by, that in your seeing, your hearing, your talking, your thinking, your moving you express that which is moving with the Sun and the other starts. If you don’t know that, if you don’t feel that; well then naturally you feel a bit alien, you feel a stranger in the world and if you feel a stranger you feel hostile” – Alan Watts
To not believe that Man is God is to feel disconnected from the universe, to feel alone. To be in a constant state of searching for God while never realising that God is within you for you are in Fact God.
